Why EMDR Works When Talk Therapy Doesn’t
For many of my clients, talk therapy helped some — but only up to a point. They could talk about what happened, understand the patterns, and even gain insight… but deep down, the memories and feelings still felt stuck in their body.
That’s where EMDR comes in.
Talk Therapy vs. EMDR: What’s the Difference?
Traditional talk therapy can be powerful for exploring your thoughts and feelings, finding new perspectives, and getting support. But when it comes to trauma or painful memories, talking alone often can’t fully unhook the emotional and physical charge.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) works differently. It uses bilateral stimulation — like guided eye movements — to help your brain process memories in a natural, adaptive way. It’s like taking a file that was stuck open in your mind and finally closing it.
How EMDR Helps You Heal
With EMDR, you don’t have to retell your story in painful detail. You stay in control as we target the memories or beliefs that are fueling your anxiety, perfectionism, or burnout. Over time, those memories lose their emotional grip — and you’re freed up to live more fully in the present.
Is EMDR Right for You?
If you’ve done therapy before but still feel stuck, EMDR might be the missing piece. Many clients describe finally feeling relief they didn’t think was possible — not just understanding their trauma, but feeling that it no longer controls them.
